The PRAM battery in my 2400 has been mostly dead for some time now.
The thing that I find I have to do is zap the PRAM with the "4-
fingered salute" pretty much whenever the machine completely loses
power (e.g. main battery goes completely flat and I forget to plug it
in immediately.) As long as you maintain some main power (battery or
AC adapter), it doesn't really care about the PRAM battery's state.
