You could also try making a custom boot CD that includes the G3 upgrade extensions.

It would be much easier to swap displays from one 2400 to another
instead of doing the processor swap. Swapping the G3 is an intense
and challenging task, I have done it 3 times and I really would not
want to do it again. The 2400 internals are in some ways more
complicated than my 12" G4 internals.
