Sounds like you have a bad cable.
Let me cut through this ... you plug the 29 pin side directly into your
powerbook and the 25 pin side into your Syquest drive. Turn power on to both
machines and your powerbook will not recognize the Syquest drive. Is that about
it?
O.K., your Syquest has auto term sensing. It may not be functioning correctly.
The only way to check is to put an active terminator on the open pass through
port of the Syquest drive to see if that solves the problem.
However, just tell the Powerbookguy that you are having problems, have him send
you a new cable and a terminator. If it works, send back the old cable & term.
If not, try the terminator. If that works, send back a cable. If not, then my
guess is your problem is with the Syquest drive itself. There is no reason the
direct configuration shouldn't work otherwise.
