It is very easy to do... any PCMCIA Ethernet card with drivers for the MAC
will do -- I use successfully a Farallon Ethernet pcmcia card.
Since you will be given static IP addresses by your aDSL provider then all
you need to do is configure Open Transport with an IP static address, a
corresponding netmask, suitable gatway address and DNS server addresses.
That's all there is to it.
My DSL comes from GTE. During install, a splitter was deployed outside my
house, the unused 2nd pair of phone wires into my house was used to carry
DSL and connect it to a DSL modem. The modem then was connected via
cross-ver cable to a mini ethernet hub -- to which my PB-2400c is
connected also. After checking connectivity with the Phone Office Switch
and doing the OpenTransport configuration above I was online successfully.
If your DSL provider were to give you dynamic addresses then you have to
use DHCP to acquire/renew the lease of your IP address. Having static IP
addresses is simpler and easier to configure.
If you wish to firewalled your home machines and multiplex use of your DSL
static IP addtress then you need either a separete router or router
software such as IPnetrouter (?) on the MAC that implements firewalling
and NAT.
Which TELCO/provider are you getting your aDSL from?
