Hello all,Old batteries are often such that they won't hold much of a chargeI have just picked up a nice duo 280 and a dock from
eBay. Great deal. I have been a dedicated Mac-daddy
since my first 128, but I am completely new to
portables. So enough about me, here is my question:The battery reads fully charged (full blocks and
battery/plug picture in the control strip) when run w/
AC adaptor attached and battery in. But when I try to
start up with the battery, I get the startup chime,
but 5 seconds later it shuts off. Is this normal for
a dead battery? And where can I get a new battery
other than eBay (don't want to wait)? Thanks for the help!

(memory effect?) You can try to recondition them a few times
from the application by the same name and that rescued one of
my batteries. Otherwise they're pretty much useless unless you can
dissassemble them and repair them (which some on the list have
said they have done, but I don't think that's done too often).
You can buy new batteries for the Duo from Battery Plus.
