Two things to try:

1.      Reset the power manager.  Unplug the power cord and take out the
battery.  Hold down the power button on the back for one minute.  Then put
in the battery and plug in the power cord.  See if it starts up.

2.      When it makes its weird sound, give it the Mac three finger salute
- control-command-keyboard reset.
