Crank the brightness back up and >watch your temperature and battery life return to 8.5 levels. I disagree. In 8.6, the system software was altered to give free processor cycles to the "Idle" process. This is what cuts the CPU operating temp and thus saves battery power. I did not change my work at all - same usage patterns under 8.5.1 and 8.6 - and my machine generally runs 9 degrees C cooler under 8.6 than under 8.5.1. I noticed immediately that my screen had returned to 1/2 brightness - one of the first things I did was return it to its maximum setting.
