If it's your G3-320/2400, it has to go to Apple. Mine went to Rochester but
I hear now PBs have to ship to Texas. Apple sends a nice padded box by
courier and you can get it back on the 3rd day--unless they are out of
parts. Went through that 4x w/a 2400c, 1x w/a 5300c (dumped ASAP, cost me
$6800 w/ram-those were the days!) and 3x w/a 540c so I know the procedure
well, unfortunately. Also, any local repair could take more than 3 days as
well since they diagnose and then order the parts.
However, all Listers beware that Apple is ruthless on 3rd party stuff. Apple
understandably warranties and repairs only their originally supplied parts.
That means they may, at their option and without your approval, remove CPU
upgrades, extra ram, larger HDs and returned them OUT of the computer if
they are the defective parts, or if they are suspected to be part of the
problem. Apple will not test these parts and you will be charged for the
labor and their replacement parts (although they will contact you for final
repair decision/authorization). The best is to restore your stock parts
prior to shipping which may not be convenient or possible. The foregoing
holds, in or out of warranty.
You might try calling MCE / www.powerbook1.com and get their advice. I
believe they are Apple authorized and know the 2400 inside out.
Good luck! BTW what seems to be the problem?
