I had a similar problem, and after removing the cover, I realized that the 
battery contacts were not fully aligned, and one was actually bent.  So I 
very very carefully so as not to snap if off, I bent the contact back, and 
bam, the battery was recognized, it charged up, and all is well.  Give that a 
try.  Also, you could have a dead battery too
