I just found this list. Sorry if the following is redundant, old news,
etc. but I need results.
My 2400 is unusable due to its shutting down after I put it to sleep the
other day. When I initiated "sleep" all was normal: latch-light was
blinking. Twenty minutes later when I tried to wake it, the light was
no longer blinking and the box wouldn't start no matter what I tried
("on", "control-command-on," reset button, battery only, adaptor only,
etc)
I tried it the next morning just to see what would happen and it fired
up. Everything was perfectly normal...for 10 minutes. Then it froze
(no cursor movement, etc). Had to "control-command-on" to get it off,
well partly off. That procedure blanked the screen, but the drive was
still spinning. I had to hit the reset button to spin the drive down.
Troubleshooting through the day, I noticed that after long rests of
several hours, the PB would start (sometimes), by using
"control-command-on." Again, it would behave normally for the 10
minutes, then the same thing as before.
When the machine had to be "forced" off after a freeze, I noticed that
it stayed warm for quite some time. The battery also drained during
this time, even though the adaptor was plugged in.
I feel the problem is heat related, probably due to malfunctions in
power management. The machine is 16 months old. I'd like it fixed
quickly and for a decent price. I saw somewhere in my travels to this
list (I think it was Apple's forum) that a logic board could be
involved, costing something like $1000? If that's the answer, does
anyone want to buy a handy little 2400 parts locker?
