I have had freeze and general problems when trying to rip a track on a D2 CDR (it's quite an old one) and I think the real problem is that it isn't usually recognised, but needs the toast cdr reader extension to show... I tend to use another machine to actually rip the cds at the moment(usually a Montana or PB G3)w/2400 in disk mode to copy the files... I'll have a new LaCie CD reader in the next week or so, and I'll be able to report on the differences between them - it should be useable w/out an extension... The encoder I've been using is MPeg Audio Creator 2.0 - It seems to produce pretty good results - I've been able to convert back to AIFF using SoundApp and write Audio CDs (I do have the originals:->) without any real discernable loss in quality...
