The battery that does not allow you to start up your Duo has a short in it 
which is why is stops the unit from powering up...and it should be disposed 
of in a proper manner, as all batteries.  
The battery which gave you all indicators grey except one was actually almost 
all full.  when the grey indicators are filled, that means the battery is 
full, but to be safe it is best to let the battery full charge overnite.
The other thing that is a good idea is to recondition the battery which you 
can do with most powerbooks.  Just do a search for battery in your FIND menu 
and it should come up.  If not, go to Apple.com and download a free version 
of it.
