After MUCH soul-searching, I finally decided to send mine to the local
shop, too. The guys there are nice, and they always try to fix the
cheapest stuff first. I asked if they had worked on 2400s, and got a
"Yes" from the guy on the phone. Unfortunately, he was wrong! The tech
guy called me the next day and said he definitely hadn't. LOL Oh well.
The good news is he is a cautious guy, and called me before doing anything
drastic. he is gonna replace the PRAM battery ($25) and if that doesn't
work, I will be shipping mine off to DT&T as well.

LOL That was *me*, Cliff! But everyone must keep in mind that I was
basically in a state of panic when I wrote that. I called DT&T and they
told me I needed the logicboard replaced before they even saw the
computer or had any info besides "It won't
start". Also, it turns out there WAS a screw rolling around in my PB that
had come loose from the daughtercard...the local guy put it back in, so at
least I will know that that wasn't the problem if I send it to DT&T and
they replace the motherboard. ;-)

After about ten days without my beloved 2400, that has become my priority
too. I have been pounding away on my old PB 100 in the meantime.
So...for those who want to know what to do if their 2400 suddenly
dies, these are the lessons I have learned:
- Don't send your 2400 to Apple--they are expensive and may not have parts
- DT&T will fix your 2400 quickly and send it back soon
- If you try a local shop first make SURE that the technician has worked
on 2400s before, and expect it to take longer than DT&T, because they
will likely have to order parts
In fact, my PRAM battery is being sent from DT&T!
