I took mine apart before the "pry apart advice" was posted. The PS looked to
be ultrasonically welded and not a snap/pry apart item. I used a thin
hacksaw blade along the seam. Do this carefully because the space is tight
and there is shielding directly under the plastic casing. You can splice the
inside core wire, cutting out about an inch to allow for the shrinkage of
the co-axial sheathing ground wire which I soldered. Then wrap the wire in
PVC insulating tape. The plastic PS case should then be carefully wrapped
with PVC tape as well. I reinforced all the cable flex points with
additional PVC tape.

My first PS looks like a war victim but it lasted 18 months after about 6
repairs. The @#&*^% wire keeps breaking, no matter how careful you are. One
trip with the wires bent/pressed in a bag is enough to destroy it. IMHO this
is a major irritant and the Madson 3rd party design appears (at least in
photos) to suffer as well from this vulnerability despite the 90 deg bend in
the plug. The 3400 bend breaks too.
