It would seem that this is possible, i.e. the powerbook draws only the power it
needs to operate ignoring the surplus (actually easier on the adapter I would
think), which is why you can use the 1.5 amp power supply of the 280c & 2300
with the earlier Duos requiring only 1.04 amps (per Apple) and, I'm guessing,
you can use the auto adapter with any Duo or Powerbook with similar connector.
However, I purchased a 1.04 amp supply from a guy on eBay thinking I was
getting the 1.5 amp supply as he advertised it being used with his 2300.
According to the guy, he used the adapter and type 1 battery from his 230 to
run the 2300 all the time. Apple officially simply does not support the use of
the 1.04 amp adapter with the 2300 or 280c. Does anyone know what the
consequences are of underpowering a Powerbook? The immediate thought would seem
to be that since the powerbook draws enough power to run the powerbook and
simultaneously charge the battery, that the battery simply might not charge as
fast (or at all), or that the screen might not be able to run as bright as it
is possible? Anything truly adverse?
