Mark, When batteries get so depleted that they would overwhelm the recharging circuitry for the PB to attempt to recharge them, or if they develop an internal short, the power manager will react in one of two ways: kindly by not charging the battery or not so kindly by shutting down immediately. You appear to be suffering from the latter. It's not impossible that the machine is fine and a completely dead battery would do this, as I've seen on some 140-180 machines. Normally, a nominal voltage resides in even "dead" batteries, unless they are shorted out. Check it, as others have politely suggested. You may also want to reset your pram and reset your power manager for the Duo before completely tossing the battery. Consider the battery dead and get a replacement.
