I also had problems with my 2300c after I upgraded to 8.5, when attached to
a Newer Micro dock. The duo wouldn't boot up as the start up disk with my
4400 in SCSI disk mode(it was OK on its own). There may be a bug in 8.5 up
and Micro docks/mini docks. When I went back to 8.0 it was
fine. I have decided to keep to 8 since even without this nuisance which was
nessasary for installing software, 8.5 and up is a drain on speed, memory
also the slow wake up time out of sleep, dispite the fact that I love it. I
am running 8.6 on my 4400 and I have
never experienced such a stable and fast system, especially when using the
internet, I wish it worked the same for my Duo. I think that these little
machines just aren't up to demands of the newer bigger systems, unless you
want to run them at a slower more frustrating pace!
