I had this problem with my 2400c. Worried me sick. The culprit? I took a 
good look at the charging cable and it was frayed right up near the 
brick. So I had to buy a new one. I tried to fix the wiring, but it was 
too close to the brick to do anything with and I couldn't work out how to 
open it up. I hear the iBook power adaptor fits the 2400. I might get 
one, they look really nice.

This may not be your problem, but it might be something to check.
