I had two of my PB 2400 ac adapters quit on me, but they were kind enough to signal their demise by giving me a flickering screen which when examining the cord directly out of the adapter, it appeared to be not connecting firmly. I stripped the rubber/plastic black coating off of the wire right next to the miniature brick and sure enough the outside shielding was frayed. This occurred on two separate ac adapters. It definitely is a design flaw in the production. Anyway, you can take a screwdriver and pop open the case of the adapter as it is only lightly glued; find the black and white wires that go into the small external cable and cut both wires. One is the positive and the other is the shield or negative. You will be able to identify same on the cable part as well. Strip the cable and reconnect the two wires - black to black and white to white. I then used small wire nuts to hold the wires together although one could just as well solder. I then snapped the ac adapter case back together again and used black electrical tape to prevent the cable from having an external pressure on the joint and taped the case and cable together. It doesn't look very pretty, but the repaired adapters are the ones I leave home hiding behind my desk all the time anyway. Dallas ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
