Does anyone know of a source for the PowerBook 2400c PRAM battery? I need
one quick.

Folks, we may be halfway to finding that source. I was very keen to find a
new PRAM battery for my 2400c a month ago. From a previous posting on this
list, I knew that its specs were:

820-0523-A (part no.?), 2400 battery
Varta 3.6V 110 mAh
3/V110H NiMH

Ive opened up my 2400 and taken out the battery a couple fo times to have a
look at it (which confirmed that it doesnt look anything like most PRAM
batteries I'ver seen, so may have been a one-off). Being UK-based right now,
I suspected that Varta was a UK brand and looked them up. I wrote to their
e-mail address and got the following response:

Jose,
Thank you for your enquiry. I doubt you will be able to buy your
battery " off the shelf ". There is not enough demand for these specials.
But I am sure that Power Packs in Solihull can help. Their telephone number
is 0121 711 3360. If they do not recognise the actual computer type, if you
send them the original they can "copy" it with new cells, which will be the
V150H type now. This is identical in size but an increase in capacity, and
so fully compatible with the circuitry. Any problems / queries, please
contact me directly.

Best regards,
Bob Stone, Varta UK.

Unfortunately, Ive been too busy to follow this up (I traced my PBs woes
to other hardware problems--more below). But why dont you try it and let me
know the results? (The long distance prefix for the UK is 44, so Power
Packs number from the US would be 00 44 121 7113360.)

PS--about my 2400s problem, which Ive narrowed down to the usual power
management unit (or some such hardware; it works fine but wont recognize
the battery and is beyond all resets). Ive written DTT Service twice to ask
if they sold these parts separately, but havent even had the courtesy of a
reply from them. Anyone ever bought one of these things (or the whole logic
board itself) from DTT? Thanks!
