If your using the multiusers part of mac os 9, make sure you choose the 800x600 (built in) resolution before shuting down. If your using a 'normal' user (luckly the 'owners' user works properly) on an external monitor and shut down before returning the resolution back to the '800x600 (built in)' you will have a black screen after you login!
