Has anyone had any luck running Apple's Battery Recondition app on a Duo
280 with somewhat newer revisions of the OS? I'm setting one up for
someone, and I've been unable to run either version 1.3 or 1.5 in various
combinations under OS 8.1, 7.6.1, and even a very basic 7.5.5 (System file
only). It either refuses to run with a "not on this Powerbook" message
(though the 280 should be supported), or quits mysteriously just after
turning the screen to white. I now recall having similar problems with my
own Duo 2300 in the past. It seems odd that it wouldn't run, considering
that it installs with both 7.6 and 8.1.
8.1 seems to run well on this Duo 280/24, and isn't appreciably slower than
7.6.1 other than the extra shaded graphics. It does use about twice as much
RAM, though (8MB versus 4.5MB for very similar extension sets).
