Its not better than Virtual Memory, but it gives you a nice alternative
to Virtual Memory in its "File Mapping Only" setting. This does not
enable Virtual Memory, but instead a feature of the MacOS that the MacOS
will not let you turn on UNLESS you use Virtual Memory.

In any native PowerPC application, you will notice in the Get Info
dialog, that memory requirements will be reduced if you turn on VM. This
is because of File Mapping. File Mapping dynamically loads and unloads
shared resources/libraries (i think) pertinent to an application. If File
Mapping is not on, ALL of those resources are loaded when the program is
launched and unloaded (most of the time) when the program is quit. File
Mapping allows the OS to load the pieces ONLY as it needs it.

While, personally I do see this as an asset, I've always felt there's a
minor tradeoff in stability and that will NEVER be a tradeoff I'm
personally willing to make.
