I had the same problems attempting to set up the Airport.

Farallon has been outstanding in their technical support and sent me another
SkyLINE wireless PCMCIA card, however, I still could not "talk" to the
Airport.

I then had Outpost.com (who also gave excellent support) send me another
Airport base station and, voila! I was able to be wireless! That is, after
another call to Farallon Tech Support and Christine "walked" me through the
proper setup procedure for my RoadRunner cable modem/ethernet setup.

I would suggest you try another Airport base station.
