Use this at your own risk! For older Apple >> disk formatters, the software had to see the Apple drive ROM chip or not >> work. >> >> paul Well, I do get paid for this kind of thing :) Actually, I've not lost a drive yet (o.k., o.k., the "guesstimate" is about a dozen applications) of this "trick" to be able to reformat with Apple sw after a third-party driver went on an Apple drive. I did find one particularly nasty seagate that didn't take the Apple driver and I had to run back to Silverlining (yak) It is certainly not SOP -- but after Apple told me I had to carry a quarter mil in inventory to be Apple-authorized years ago, I have relied a bit less on "Apple Standard Operating Procedure" -- greedy goobers. I have had drives die, certainly (and most often after clients elected to open their own cases and fool around with the components, but that's another story). I've had them die from using Norton, believe it or not. I've had them die from just swapping to another machine. I've had them die from static discharge. I've seen 'em dropped, run over, and even sunk -- but not (yet, knock cranium or wood) has a reformat interrupt resulted in a dead drive. Well, back to coding. Catch y'all later. paul ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
