These are identical symptoms to what I've also experienced. As I've said in
previous posts I was sure it was terminal the first time I went through a
progressive deterioration to what appeared as "death". In fact I only
reassembled my 2400 after leaving it apart for 3-4 months (and even notified
MCE of a dead Newer G3 card) to bring it back to the USA on a planned trip.
I plugged in the AC power and, apart from my weird HD directory problems,
the 2400 has been great ever since.
You have two procedures.
SIMPLE--Without taking it apart, pull battery, pull AC, let sit 2-3 days.
Reset Power Manager for 40-60 sec. You should not get any green light as
everything should be completely discharged. Then connect AC only (you must
have a reliable power supply) and press power button for a normal restart.
COMPLEX--take 2400 apart. Check seating of CPU and RAM cards, all cables and
screws. Leave disassembled for a few days to discharge everything.
Reassemble. Follow above procedures.
Well over 50 pct chance it will boot successfully. If it doesn't work, let
it sit a week, battery out and AC disconnected and try again (assuming
you've checked the innards).
