>Having just received my first Duo Dock II, I have a few questions. >Where can I get a key for it or is there a simple way to keep it from >ejecting? I don't need it to be theft-proof, but I have images of my young >son wondering what the eject button does and thinking it is cool. I don't know about getting keys made. Check with your favorite locksmith. The duo won't eject from the dock if it's running and even when it does eject, it won't jump out onto the floor and get broken. So, if you're worried about the kids taking it out of the dock, just leave it running. If you're worried about them getting into the computer, put a password-protected screeensaver on it. I use Darkside of the Mac, it is a good screensaver. The password protection is simple and unsophisticated, but young kids probably don't know how to do a force quit. Darkside also keeps a log of failed password attempts, so you will know if somebody is banging on the keys. It will also log unanswered software requests as failed password attempts, so read the logs carefully before assuming that somebody is mucking with your keyboard in the middle of the night. Don't yell at the kids if they didn't do anything. ; -) >Does the Duo battery charge if the dock is off but plugged into the wall >outlet? Yes, I think so. Other listas please correct me if I'm wrong. I have given up on trying to do anything with old laptops on a battery. I take a power adapter and plug in wherever I use the 'book away from the dock. Finally, what kind of adapter/connector is needed to connect the >Ethernet of the dock to a crossover cable? If the dock has the standard AAUI port, you will need an AAUI/10BaseT (RJ45) transceiver. Sometimes docks have nubus ethernet cards installed, so look at the ports on any cards installed. Did you know that you can put an internal hard drive inside the dock? Very cool for backups. cheers- Davis' Mac Works ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
