It could be done. Possibly by using the USB/ADB converter made by 
Griffin, stripping it free of its case and plastic down to the 
essentials. You might find after dismantling the G3 "2000" that 
enough space could be gleaned between the two chambers where you 
could mount the adapter. You would then gut the trackpad innards but 
leave the trackpad cover and custom cut the opening to accept the Duo 
trackball and it mounting appartus. Me, I'd never do it.

I had three trackball powerbooks from the Powerbook 100 to the Duo 
230 and 280. My first impression of a trackpad on the Duo 2300 wasn't 
pleasant, but I found to my surprise that I soon loved it. Especially 
the tap, lock & drag. After having my 2400 I wouldn't go back to a 
Powerbook trackball... period. And I use a trackball as a mouse 
replacement on my desktop machine. Trackball for mouse, but trackpad 
for trackball.
