I've been using DAVE between my Win2K server and a 2400 and 7100 for about a
month and have been really happy with it. It does have its limitations
though. Because it uses TCP/IP for its network connection, if you use a
modem for an internet connection and Ethernet for your AppleTalk connection
(a common scenario for a home office), you must switch TCP/IP connections
back and forth between PPP and Ethernet in order to either connect to the
internet or mount the PC's drive(s). Additionally, because LocalTalk does
not directly support TCP/IP, you can't use LocalTalk (via the printer port)
to connect the two machines, even if you've got an Asante LocalTalk card in
your PC or an AsanteTalk LocalTalk to Ethernet converter between them.
So you won't be able to easily connect those LocalTalk only machines
(dockless Duo's, older PowerBooks) without a SCSI-Ethernet Converter. BTW,
does anybody have an extra they'd like to sell....
