It might be just as easy to put in a thermostat as to put in a switch. Then 
you have the best of both worlds: quiet, but cooling when it is needed. Just 
be sure to get a thermostat that works at the proper temperature; that you 
place it close to the power supply (or wherever else seems to create the most 
heat); and that you orient it correctly to ensure proper function (some 
thermostats don't work reliably when in the wrong position).
