Yes, it's definitely an extension conflict; I can start up in the Dock 
wth extensions off and had built an extension set that was starting up 
successfully. But then I had to go and add something else to it (while it 
was out of the Dock).

I just wish I knew what to watch out for...any further sage remarks are 
very appreciated -
