I use both of those cards on my 2400, and DID NOT have the MCE, or any
other upgrade, performed on my 2400. It just won't boot if they're
inserted, so I have a Shutdown Script that checks for and ejects them..
this of course doesn't help if I crash, and have to give the three-finger
salute.

As far as which is more worthwile, mileage may vary. You won't get much
out of the FireWire card without a G3 card. I am still on the stock
processor, and I only use the card with a VST FireWire drive, and mouse
movement is EXTREMELY jerky during copies, although reliable. USB on the
other hand works great. The only thing that might be too intense, which I
haven't tried yet is my Sony Spressa USB Plus.

Try before you buy!
