Indeed.  I'm amazed at how many people won't deal with their own misteaks.

Well, it's within their rights to make life inconvenient for 
customers, yes.  But that aside, they refuse to sell them to service 
providers, presumably including you, since you have to build them. 
THAT's what I find really absurd here.

Indeed, that's one of the most stupid bits of design I've ever seen.

Hmm, do you mean to suggest that some other problem is being commonly 
misdiagnosed as a PRAM battery, and you're getting machines that have 
failed in other ways?
