>Powerbook 2400 to boot from a CD-ROM.

I have used a zip drive with a bootable zip disk many times. The compuer has to be
turned off when connecting the zip drive (which of coiurse has to be powerd on before
the computer is trurned on). The command to bypass the internal drive is
option-command-shift-delete. If the zip drive is bootable you will see a flashing
floppy icon for a short time then the zip drive should kick in. You can put all kinds
of diagnostic software on your zip drive.

If option-command-shift-delete does not bypass the internal HD, you can force the
computer to bypass it by disabling the system, e.h. dragging the Finder or the System
file out of the System folder.

Of course you should do this only if you are ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THE ZIP DRIVE IS
BOOTABLE - otherwise you will end up with an unbootable computer. That is not the end
of the world, you can still boot up from the emergency floppy or the system CD ROM and
manually revert what you had done to the System folder.

When yoou are with your diagnostics, put things back into the System foder if you had
dragged out anything, and restart. The few power-less seconds before restart is a good
time to quickly remove the scuzzy device if not needed.
