Unfortunately, Linux' networking is rather complex. Depending on how you
had your Mac setup previously (static IP, or DHCP, or PPP?), Linux setup
will be different.
If it's just a static IP, the easiest thing to do is to modify /etc/hosts
and add your local IP and name to it. Then (off the top of my head- sorry,
I'm not at a Linux box right now), I think it's /etc/routes to add a DNS
server. Then restart the machine, and let it take care of networking
dependencies for you. Check your man pages for "hosts" and "inetd" and
related stuff like that (it'll suggest pages at the end of the man page).
Or you could use ifconfig to bring networking down and back up again...
DHCP depends on your DHCP client- each one varies. Most (recent) Red
Hat-based installs are really good about setting up DHCP on install.
One of the best places to check for this sort of information would be in the
Linux faq's or the HOWTO's. Read the "Net3 information" HOWTO (or is it up
to Net4 by now?).
Good luck,
-Nathan

Subject: [Duo] LinuxPPC on 2400
I've finally installed Linux on my 2400, and it's working fine so far.
However, I'm not quite sure how to go about setting up my IP address and so
on so I can access the net. I'm using a standard 2400/180/80MB with a
farallon ethermac card.
I have all the details from my TCP/IP on MacOS, but I'm a little confused
about how to set it up in Linux.
I've heard a couple of people talk about their Linux setups on the ist, so
I'm just hoping someone can help.
Thanks.
Dan.
