Good to know! I had just been speculating whether the Asantes would work with
the 2300 since, although Asante does not support anything beyond a 68030, the
Micro was widely used with the Duo 280c. However, I have never heard of the
desktop models working with the 280c, much less the 2300. In fact, I had heard
they made these machines crash!
In any event, Asante attributes the lack of support beyond the 68030 machines
to:
1. Incompatibility with SCSI manager 4.3; and
2. Increase in SCSI bus rate from 1.5 to 5 Mbps (which began with almost all
68040 machines)
But guess what, none of the Duos can utilize SCSI Manager 4.3. And, while I
have not confirmed the 2300 (although I'll bet it's true), the 280c has a SCSI
transfer rate of 1.5 Mbps.
You seemed to have proven that these are the only limitations to using the
Asante Micro (and possibly the desktop) with machines past the 68030s. Whereas,
I have proven the Dayna will work on a very modern PowerBook & Desktop (my
6500), the Asante should not.
