Odd. I have a 4GB SCSI drive in my dock, a 4.8 GB drive in my 2300, each
partitioned into 2 drives, and have no problem regularly switching between all
4 disks using Startup Disk CDEV under OS 8.1.

Oh, wait a minute. I do recall there being some problem with the Startup DIsk
control panel and OS 8. You should be able to download the most recent Startup
DIsk CDEV from Apple to be compatible with your setup. I just remembered this
because I have OS 7.5 on one of my partitions. I had to replace its Startup
DIsk CDEV with a newer one in order to to switch disks after I booted up under
it. I think it has something to do with HFS+ which was initiated between OS 8 &
8.1 update.
