edso posted a new comment: douglas, chris, could you please try to run a test backup in debug verbosity using PASSPHRASE e.g. PASSPHRASE=secret duplicity -v9 ~/testfolder file:///tmp/testbkp and rerun your failing resumes without gpg-agent but PASSPHRASE in debug verbosity?
