Thank you, that is a lot clearer!

I would like it because I have a big directory tree that contains many 
symlinks. I use symlinks to categorize the files/directories. The data isn't 
all on one disk, but the symlinks are all in one directory tree.

I could probably solve this by backing up several disks/directory trees too, 
but I'm mainly interested in the case of data loss in keeping the data 
categorized like it is. Unfortunately the directories with the targets of the 
symlinks aren't very well organized and have a lot of data I actually don't 
care to back up.
