Kenneth Loafman proposed the following answer:
This mode is normally called differential backup. You could emulate it
by having a script move the daily incremental to a subdirectory after
the backup is done. That way, duplicity would start each daily with a
new incremental, all based on the full backup. I have plans to add
differential to the mix, but it's way down the road.
