I will go and have a look at the mailng list after I have replied here.
I forgot to mention that I had also tried the "//" option after the host name
and I had also forced it to ask for my ssh passphrase. I also verified that I
could login to the remote host with sftp on its own.
But still duplicity fails with the sftp error message.
