Follow-up Comment #2, bug #24741 (project duplicity):
NcFTP by itself has a very good track record. I'm thinking that the solution
to all of this is to use Pexpect to drive NcFTP directly and to not use the
tools at all. If done properly, then any FTP client could be substituted as
long as the commands were compatible.
