Hi,

I just realized that with the last SVN revision of libao from 24.5.07
(V0.8.8 RC1) audio playback under Widows (WMM) is supported! :-)

Read already about it a few weeks ago in some mailing list archive, but didn't
manage to compile it with the supplied patch for the official V0.8.6 that time.
It seems that the author of that patch has also taken over maintenance of
the repository... which obviously was necessary the last release is 2.5 years
ago
(as usual for xiph.org stuff ;-)).

My original intention was to try if the latest updates of Sven concerning the
replacement
of FFMPEG by liba52/libmad/libmpeg2 also works for Windows... which they do
since the
needed libraries are easy to build (./configure; make; make install).

The later is unfortunatelly not the case for libao, since the configure script
first has to be
build (which is not so easy for a noob like me and also not explained in the
source package
how to do it... :-().

To cut a long story short... I adapted Olivier's build script "mingw.sh" a bit
and have added some
explanations for building the needed libraries in "README.MinGW"... if you
Michael could please put
them to the repository?

ciao
Ralph

PS: BTW... precompiled Windows binaries are available on my webpage:
