IIRC until recently the "-t" option wasn't needed at all..

I guess I got that from the source code.

I agree, there should be a switch that simply activates
sending to "/bin/sh -c "command_string", with command_string
being configurable (default dvdauthor -t -o . ...).

Yes, the chapter marks could be set that way, but..
