It can take a long time to refresh the status buffer. It may be that
the next thing the user wants to do is delete that buffer, so
refreshing it would be a waste of time.

The mtn back-end deletes the contents of the status buffer and inserts
a message "* Just committed! Please refresh buffer". I think that's a
good way to go for other back-ends.
