I've finally made time to merge my experimental branch into main. This uses fileinfo operations in dvc-diff-mode to update the display without running the backend.
These display updates don't change the detailed diff part of the display, so some of them may be confusing. That could be fixed by changing the detailed display into an ewoc, possibly in a separate buffer. It also adds dvc-status-mode, which defines only those keystrokes and menu entries needed for committing, merging, and updating.
