Further down in your message you write you have only tested DVD+RW disks, i.e. no DVD-RW. AFAIK, cdrecord-ProDVD currently only supports the DVD-R and DVD-RW flavor; that could explain while blanking failed. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experiences!
