The todo list as a "feature" is horribly broken as-is, which is why it's being removed. The existing implementation is broken on so many levels that I don't even want to look at it when talking about a potential replacement. :) As to why to add a new one? Well, because I do want to see that functionality available to users. Just as I intend to add support for events on the calendar (invite people to your stitch-n-bitch, for example), I think a todo list is in keeping with the ethos of the site. Now, with that in mind, I've nothing against exploring other options and seeing if they can be integrated. If someone out there has a really good site that enables us to import/export data, provides a bunch of value-add services (emailing you about your todo items, a mobile interface, etc) then that would certainly save us a lot of work and I would be interested in looking at integrating with them. Whenever we say "we want to have X on the site" then you can generally read it as "we want our users to have access to a service like this, in whatever the best way is." That could mean working together with a third party group that fits our very exacting standards of quality, diversity, standards of advertising (i.e., none), etc. If such a service exists, let's use them! But I have a feeling that we're going to run into the situation where people say "I would love a todo list, but I don't want to trust foothebar.com with my data." Do we exclude those users, or spend some development time to build it ourselves and include them? It's all a series of tradeoffs that the community is going to have to decide and prioritize. I can tell you now, though, that a todo list feature is not on the immediate roadmap (i.e., it doesn't block launching the site). Of course, if somebody volunteers to implement, then I won't say no! But the development staff (uh, just me right now I guess) won't be spending any time on this project yet. -- Mark Smith / xb95 [email protected] _______________________________________________ dw-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.dwscoalition.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dw-discuss
