We've been bouncing this topic around and trying to find a good way to do something different than the LJ user head icon. We've tried doing the swirly/'d' thing, but in 16x16 pixels it's just about impossible to get it recognizable. Currently we have the talented Stacey working on coming up with something that is unique and interesting.
