Yes, I've noticed the awful rendering of some journals! Why do some do that
and others don't? Thankfully, my style is NOT one that does that so I can
still read my friends page. I rarely read my friends page from the pc...

Oh god, seconded by MILES. The G1's browser is just this side of painful
for working to post anything longer than a paragraph or two. Heck, I would
even take a specialized DW browser thingy that let me read my friends page
and read posts and stuff without worrying about how long it'll take the G1
browser to render their themes, and how crazy their stuff will look when
rendered.

That said, I doubt any client will ever be able to get around the flaws of
even the best phone hardware around today. The G1 and the iPhone alike are
both horrendous to use for entering <160-character messages/text of any
kind. This is half because the small keyboards and touchscreens and so
forth make text entry difficult because of the badly handled transition
from reading to editing a field of text, and half because there's no
adequate, fine-grained control for moving your cursor to where it needs to
be to let you fix a spelling mistake or add a tag or two. A client could
ease the editing pain by say, breaking up the steps in which you write a
post into something roughly like this:

- Step 1: write your post
- Step 2: add title, tags, etc
- Step 3: preview. Freely switch back and forth between all three steps
until you're happy with what you've got.

This wouldn't necessarily need to be the only way to write a post--you
could also have a quick post type thing with everything on one page, and
no preview, so that people who just want to post, I dunno, "bears rule,
tigers drool :PPP" can go ahead and do that, and people who want to write
a treatise on the ruleage of bears can also do that in a way that keeps
them sane.
